An experience...

I woke up early today at about 6.45am for my gp posting. For this whole week, I have been posted to a gp clinic to observe how a gp works.

It is a good experience. I get to see real patients coming in for a variety of disorder ranging from cough and cold to more rare cases like a haematoma under the nail that requires the nail to be removed for drainage of clotted blood.

Other than the clinical aspect, I also observe certain cases whereby at the most tiny feeling of discomfort, patients come and usually ask for medical certificates.

Then I also hear some stories whereby patients who are suspected drug addicts come in to get probably some pethidine or sleeping tablets etc.

There are funny cases, serious cases but mostly minor cases like cough and cold. You can even see big guys struggling when the doctor wants to draw blood or give an injection. Haha.

To my surprise, I even had a chance to examine a young girl who had a congenital tricuspid malformation.

It has been a good experience especially when the doctor explains certain cases which are interesting.

At the end of the day, I left the clinic feeling satisfied with the day's teaching and of course exhausted. =D
